Replacing the front left or right blinker (turn indicator) on your Volvo S40, V40, S60, V70, or XC70 is a quick and easy do it yourself project if you follow these easy steps.

The first time I had this done at a local Volvo Dealership, they charged me $31.25! A friend of mine who is a certified Volvo Nut, showed me how to change my Volvo S40’s front blinker myself for less than $2.

Step 1
Pop the hood on your Volvo.

Step 2
Looking directly down from above the faulty turn signal light (blinker) locate and remove the screw between the headlight housing and the blinker housing.

Step 3
Once this screw is removed, the entire blinker assembly should slide forward and out away from the body of the car. You may need to jiggle the blinker assembly a little bit to get it to slide forward.

Step 4
Once the blinker assembly is pulled out of your Volvo, unplug the wiring harness from the assembly by turning the harness a quarter turn and pulling it out. Attached at the end of this wiring harness is bulb which you can be bought in packs of two at any Wal-Mart store for less than $4. (Tip: Keep the extra indicator light in your glove box for the next time.)

Step 5
Remove the old bulb and insert a new one. Ensure that the bulb works before remounting the blinker assembly to your Volvo.

Step 6
Reinsert the blinker housing assembly, and tighten the bracket screw that holds the blinker housing in place. Test the blinker one more time and you’re done!

Good Luck!
